Work from home?

Ever wonder how to get rid of clutter once and for all? There is a secret to getting organized and organization in general.

Do you have items that send mixed message?

What you may not fully realize is that all items in our home are a catalyst for some form of energy. If this sounds odd, consider a piece of music that brings back a memory for you.

For me, if I hear Wham’s, Careless Whisper, I am immediately transported back to high school circa 1980’s, slow dancing in our school gym.

The B-52’s, Love Shack, reminds me of driving down Parkedale Avenue with a group of girls from high school, belting out the song at the top of our lungs.

Other songs remind me of lost friendships, heartbreak and even the death of a dear friend. Music is a powerful inducer of both good and bad memories.

The same holds true of objects in our surroundings. That’s why it’s important to get rid of clutter when we can.

If you have an old photo from a relationship gone wrong, every time you see that picture you will feel the emotions associated with that person.monique office before organize your life contest - get rid of clutter

If you have an award from a job that you were subsequently let go from, you will look at that and feel both pride and anger at the same time.get rid of clutter - organize your life champion - helps you get organized and stop procrastination

Any object that elicits a negative emotion creates confusion, and this confusion can ultimately create stress, anxiety and even chaos.

Get rid of clutter now! Here are several examples of sending confusing messages, garnered from my students:

• Keeping marketing materials from old businesses even though you are in a new business.

• Holding onto a vase, or some other decorative item, given as a gift by someone who subsequently hurt you.

• An email inbox with thousands of old emails that have gone unanswered.

• A wedding dress for a wedding that never happened.

• Jewelry from a partner that cheated and the relationship ended.

• A book about a subject that was never going to be read.

• Exercise equipment that no longer worked.

• Bins of children’s clothing even though the person was finished having kids.

• Passwords that have an associated meaning that feels negative.

Items that create negative emotions stifle our ability to attract greater abundance into our lives; they also send extremely confusing messages about what we truly want.

Having traveled to remote parts of Guatemala, Africa, and Cambodia, witnessing people who are happy with much less. I can tell you first hand that many people outside of the developing world are living with large amounts of excess, lives rife with massive surplus that would be graciously accepted by the needy or the less fortunate.

Feel free to donate your gently used items to a cause which resonates with you. If there are none to which you are currently committed, here is a short list that would likely welcome your generous donation:

  • Shelters
  • Friends going through a tough time
  • Single Mom’s or Dad’s Groups
  • Veteran’s Groups

Please keep in mind organization is a process not a destination. It’s not required that every thing is done at once, but commit to the process of making progress. Celebrate the little victories along the way in your own personal journey of becoming more organized.
